For first time visitors and tourists to the area, we arrange local tours such as meeting local sangomas and traditional entertainment. Come and discover the Matatiele area by engaging in short hikes with local guides or take a horse ride on a Basutho pony (suitable for beginners or advanced riders).

A short drive then day long trek up and down this extraordinary pass where the Griquas first came into this region in the early 1860s. The devastating trek nearly destroyed the spirit of the thousand men, women and children who came into this country after being evicted from their homes near Philippolis by the Boers and the new Boer nation of the Orange Free State.
The town of Kokstad is named after the Griqua leader Adam Kok.
