Ratelgat (Griqua) Village Homestays

Ratelgat is a large 9600 ha farm owned by the Griqua Ratelgat Development Trust (click on map right).

It is located 35km north of Venrhynsdorp on the national N7 route and is a few hours drive from Cape Town.

When you come and stay with us you will be able to enjoy:

  • the unique Knersvlakte Biosphere area for drought resistant succulents;
  • the preparation of traditional medicinal products;
  • story telling around the campfire;
  • traditional Griqua foods;
  • the Roepers or "Griqua Choirs"* (image right);

* When the Roepers come to Ratelgat

Winter occurs during the months from May to August and is generally cool with an average temperature of 15 degrees. Summers on the other hand are warm and dry, with a relatively comfortable average temperature of 26 degrees. It is during this season that the ripening of the orchards takes place.
